The Chronicle Sports last Saturday visited the new hockey Stadium under construction, convinced that the project would be completed by Micheletti, the civil engineers of the project as scheduled.
Mr. Jimmy Castagna, the engineer of the 1,200 capacity stadium told this writer on a facility visit that: “We are just tidying up, we have completed all the major works and promise to hand over the stadium on July 3rd, 2009, as promised.”
Last Saturday's facility visit revealed that the work is 97% complete. Apart from the laying of the water-based pitch which was delayed owing to the recent rains, however the seats, changing rooms, press centre, the hostel block, offices, flood lights and scoreboard had all been completed.
The Chronicle Sports chanced on the chairman of the Ghana Hockey Association (GHA) and the vice chairman of the Local Organization Committee (LOC) Mr. Oko Nikoi-Dzani, who expressed gross satisfaction on the state of work. “This is awesome, have you seen the interior décor? It's beautiful by all standards,” were the words of Mr Nikoi-Dzani to this writer.
Ghana will host Africa for the 9th AfHF Africa Hockey Cup of Nations from July 10-18,2009, and Micheletti has promised to hand over the keys to the stadium by July 3.
