Reconstituted National Sports Associations inaugurated

Accra, June 29, GNA – The reconstituted National Sports Associations was

on Monday inaugurated with the members tasked to carry out their roles dutifully

to ensure the development of sports in the country.

The reconstitution of the 32 Associations was in line with Government's

policy of reviving sports in the country.
More than half of the Associations had their membership altered as some of

them had been dormant for sometime.
Some new faces in the reconstituted committees include Mr Ken Dzirazah,

former Deputy Speaker of Parliament, now head of Ghana Handball Association,

Mr Jonathan Tackie Kommey, Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, in

charge of Rowing and Canoe Association and Honourable Aquinas Quansah,

Member of Parliament for Mfantseman West – Chairman, Swimming and

Lifesaving Association.
Mr Abdul Rashid Pelpuo, Minister of Youth and Sports who inaugurated the

reconstituted Associations charged the membership to perform their duties to

their fullest capabilities to achieve the expected goals.

He said the fate of Ghana Sports lies in the hands of the Executives and they

are therefore expected to do more to ensure a difference in Ghana sports.

The Minister also urged the Executives to go to the hinterland and embark on

talent identification at the regions and district to replace the ageing sportsmen

and women.
Professor Francis Dodoo, Chairman of the Ghana Athletics Association on

behalf on his colleagues pledged their commitment to work in line with President

John Evans Atta Mills' vision of developing sports.
