Accra, June 16, GNA – Three communities in the Accra Metropolis exhibited an impressive performance to emerge tops of the contest of the second week of the on-going Under-18 Community Basketball Tournament, dubbed “Community Dunks” Tournament at the El Wak Stadium, Accra.

The maiden edition of the tournament, which is under the sponsorship of Indomie Noodles and Sprite, saw Ridge, Sakumono and Kaneshie communities winning narrowly in fiercely contested battles.

The lads from Kaneshie came from behind in the last quarter of the game to defeat their counterparts from Dansoman 31-30 baskets in the opening game.

This was after the Dansoman lads had lost focus in the latter stages of the game after taking an initial lead.

In the second game Sakumono displayed great basketball artistry, speed and energy to record another narrow victory over their James Town counterparts.

The much talked about James Town team, who were highly tipped by pundits to win the day, displayed some amazing skills to take the lead in the game but with over confidence they later let their opponents off the hook few seconds to the blast of the whistle to lose the game by 30-28 baskets.

Favourites Ridge community and their rivals Cantonments gave fans much to cheer in the last game as action swung from one end of the court to the other in a close encounter.

It was however the lads from Ridge who smiled the last as they relied on their stamina, speed and quick moves to outwit their opponents by a close 28-27 baskets to end the day on a high note.

Raymond Maha of Cantonments was on hand to emerge as the first player to win the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the second week of the 13 Week long tournament.

The tournament enters the third week this Friday with Nima community taking on Legon community, whilst Tema Township team lock horns with Ridge community whilst Ashaiman community battles their Kaneshie counterparts.

Others sponsors of the 13 Week Tournament include TV Africa, Y-FM, DDP Advertising, K-NET Soundz, Western Publications and 90 Minutes, the official print newspaper with Rite Multimedia as the organizers.
