Women should urged to rally behind the national teams

Kumasi, May 31, GNA – Hajia Saudatu Ibrahim, a leading member of the Millennium Supporters Union of Ghana (MISUGHA), a group supporting the national football teams has noted that football should not be made to the preserve of only men.

She said sports has in recent times caught up with women and that many of them now earn their living as professional footballers and so they need they required assistance and support.

Hajia Ibrahim, who is the Kaasi Branch Co-ordinator of MISUGHA, was speaking to the GNA Sports after the Union had embarked on a four-hour clean-up exercise at Kaasi in Kumasi on Sunday.

She entreated women football fans to join forces with their male counterparts in supporting the various national football teams especially the Black Stars and Black Queens in their international pursuits.

Hajia Ibrahim stressed that women are known to play crucial roles in any nation's development and that a lot depended on them to be committed to the Stars' bid to qualify for the 2010 World Cup tournament in South Africa.

She advised men whose wives were members of the national supporter groups not to sabotage their support but rather encourage them in the interest of the nation.

Hajia Ibrahim urged the Black Stars to be confident and resolute as they meet Mali in one of the World Cup qualifying matches in Bamako on June 6.
