Ghanaian football fans urged to unite

Kumasi, May 31, GNA –The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Millennium Supporters Union of Ghana (MISUGHA), Mr Ismaila Hammond, made up of a group committed to the cause of the national soccer teams, has admonished Ghanaian football fans to forge a united front to ensure the success of the teams.

Mr Hammond said leaders of the various football supporter groups should do away with their differences and mobilize resources and rally solidly behind especially the Black Stars as they prepare towards qualification for the 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament.

“I cannot come to terms with the persistent confrontations, conflicts and divisions among the various supporters groups in the country”, he noted, adding that it will be difficult for the Black Stars to be motivated to achieve their aims if their supporters continue to see each other as enemies.

Mr Hammond said this when he spoke to the GNA Sports after the group had embarked on a massive clean-up exercise at the Kaasi Community in Kumasi on Sunday.

The four-hour exercise was organized under the auspices of the Kaasi branch of MISUGHA and was sponsored by Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited.

The exercise saw the members desilt choked gutters, sweep the principal streets of the community and weeded overgrown grasses.

Mr Hammond noted that good sanitary conditions could help accelerate the nation's development and therefore appealed to Ghanaians to take sanitation issues seriously.

Mr Charles Oduro Acheampong, Assemblyman for Kaasi Electoral Area, commended MISUGHA for the exercise and urged them to sustain the programme in the interest of the nation and to also help in avoiding filth-related diseases.
