GFA squashes Stars bonus row
The Ghana Football Association has poured cold water on reports that there was a row in camp over winning bonus before the Black Stars played Benin on Sunday in the Group D joint Nations Cup/World Cup qualifiers.
Reports have been rife that the initial US$ 8,000 promised the team was to be slashed down because an official at the Sports Ministry it was too excessive.
The Black Stars were dominated in the match despite winning one-nil and the fans were quick to link their performance to the incidence.
But the Football Association has come out to vehemently squash the rumours gaining currency.
"It's unfortunate that I can't disclose the amount but nothing of that sort happened and the players are very happy even as at now," GFA Spokesman Randy Abbey told Ghanasoccernet.com
"In this instance the players were paid their bonuses right after the match and everything needs there. We don't know who is behind this.
"The practice has been that only those chosen or selected for a match are paid bonuses and not the entire 23-man squad," he added.
"The only time there was a change was when we had to play Lesotho, Gabon and back to Ghana on a stretch so we thought it wise to send some additional two or three players incase of injuries and what have you so we paid them. But the practice hasn't changed."
