Football News Addo: Defence will be tight
MAR 26, 2009 LISTEN

Addo will play in central defence Eric Addo says the defensive set up of the Black Stars will be tight on Sunday when Ghana plays Benin in the second phase of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.

Holland-based defender will be marshalling the defence in the absence of injured deputy captain John Mensah.

Despite the absence of the Lyon strongman, Addo is confident the rest of the defenders are up to the task of stopping the marauding Benin strikers of Razak Omotoyossi and Stephane Sessegnon.

"The defence will be tighter because we know what is at stake and that is the 2010 World Cup place," Addo told Ghanasoccernet.

"Mensah's experience is not available for us but the young guys who have come have also shown that they are capable of stopping top strikers.

"We will ensure that we will stop the Benin players from causing an stir and we are aware of the threat their main strikers can pose."

The Black Stars are bidding to progress to their second consecutive World Cup finals and will need to top Group D ahead of Mali, Benin and Sudan in the final phase of qualifiers if they are to succeed.
