The Minister for Youth and Sports, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka -Mubarak has suggested the establishment of a permanent Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to take care of future tournaments.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 15-member LOC at the LOC Secretariat, the Minister revealed that it is imperative that a permanent LOC is formed which will be useful for other competitions.

The committee is headed by Mr. Abuga Pele, with other members including Oko-Nikoi Dzani (Deputy Chairman), Rex Danquah (Ag. C.O.O), Bernard Mensah (Dep. COO), Dominic Asabea (National Sports College), Frank Lartey Jnr.(Member), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah (Member), D.S.P. Samuel Okantah (Member), Lt. Gen. A.K. Sarfo (Member).

The rest are Melvin Brown (member), A.A. Agbemetoh (member), Richard Akpokavie (member), Ebenezer Lomotey (member), Nii Quaye Kumah (Gen. Secretary) and Madam Elizabeth King (member).

He noted that the right to host the competition was given the country following the country's exploits in hockey on the continent among other considerations.

“As a country, we have hosted many important African events including the AU Conference as well as the successful Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2008) and I believe we have the experience to ensure a successful hosting of this very important event,” the Minister said.

He pointed out that the event serves to confirm President Mills' position that the “lesser known sports” should be given the necessary attention for development.

He urged the committee to work within its budget to save some money to be used for other projects and events. Alhaji Muntaka noted that the Ghana Hockey Association (GHA), Africa Hockey Federation (AHF) and the International Hockey Federation (FIH) have objectives such as fair results and satisfying players, promotion of hockey and impeccable organization among others, as ways to ensure a successful tournament.

Mr. Abuga Pele gave the assurance that the short time frame notwithstanding, his team will deliver.

The competition starts from July 8 to 18.
