A suspected armed robber LUCK RUN out for two men, believed to be armed robbers and members of a gang of four, when they were chased and lynched to death by a mob near the Community 9 cemetery in Tema, last Saturday's dawn.

The two and two others at large, according to some eye witnesses, were from Ashaiman, an area near Tema and were believed to be in their early thirties. Eye witnesses in their narration about the incident noted that the two, whose names the paper could not get at the time of going to press, had trailed a female trader from the Community 1 market to Community 9 and robbed her of a mobile phone, GH¢500 and other valuable items on her at the time of her attack.

They further explained that the robbers, perhaps not satisfied with their booty, decided to go on a robbery spree; attacking and robbing some residents of their belongings until an occupant of one of the houses they attacked raised an alarm for them to be chased.

The robbers were reported to have run away in separate directions when the alarm was raised. Two members of the gang who were not lucky were caught and lynched to death by a mob that was determined not to spare them.

The eye witnesses continued that the mob used machetes, stones, sticks and other offensive weapons in beating the two, who sustained various degrees of cuts around their mouths, shoulders, thighs and other parts of their bodies.

They claimed that had it not been for some of the other residents who pleaded leniency for them, the wrists of one of the robbers would have been chopped off.

The corpses of the two were later found at separate locations of about hundred metres between them in the same vicinity.

At the time of going to press, a woman, believed to be the wife of one of the deceased, was seen in the company of some people, wailing and rushed to cover her beloved's corpse with her cloth. She was alleged to have said to the crowd that rushed to the scene to catch a glimpse of the two corpses that her husband did not inform her that he was going on such operation.

“He only mentioned to me that he was going to see a friend and would be back home later,” she was reported to have said.
