ALHASSAN Awudu, 27, is a space to space operator, but dressed in the uniform of a prison officer.

He was smoked out through the vigilance of six prison officers led by Senior Chief Officer, Emmanuel Assan, and handed over to the Teshie Police.

Briefing the media in Accra yesterday, the Teshie District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Samuel Punobyin, said on March 3, the officers had a tip-off that Awudu occasionally dressed in a prisons officer's uniform.

He said, led by one of the officers, they spotted the suspect at a beer bar, at Teshie Aboman, and through discussion, it was found out that Awudu was a fake.

DSP Punobyin said Awudu was subsequently arrested, and when his home was searched, he had framed and hanged various pictures he had taken in the uniform and another, dressed as an officer of  the 48 Signal Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Other items found were three military bags, water bottles, a black beret, a black boot, a knife and toy pistol.

DSP Punobyin said when Awudu was brought to the police station and interrogated, he claimed the Prison uniform was given to him by a retired prison officer, now deceased.

He said the suspect had not disclosed his source.
He said Awudu also told the Police that one out of the three bags were given to him by retired warrant officer class one (WO1) George Asare Oteng.
