Kumasi Asante Kotoko will engage Kpando Heart of Lions on Friday, March 6, at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra in the first leg of this years Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Cup match dubbed “SWAG-SIC NYEMITEI Challenge Cup”.

The second leg, scheduled for the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi will be played on completion of the Glo Premiership by the middle of the year.

The match, an annual event aimed at honouring Henry Plange Nyemitei, an astute sports administrator and a former Patron of SWAG, will be sponsored by the State Insurance Company (SIC) of Ghana.

A statement issued and signed by William D. Ezah, Deputy General Secretary of SWAG, said the match will also seek to raise funds for the Association ahead of the 2009 SWAG Awards Night tentatively fixed for June as well as for the participating Clubs.

It added that the match will also serve as a befitting holiday package for the entire nation, especially for soccer fans as Ghana celebrates her 52nd Independence Anniversary Celebration on the same day.

The statement said the event has taken a two leg format in a bid to offer the participating Clubs equal opportunity to win the prestigious Cup as well as maximise gains for all stakeholders.

It said that both clubs have given the Association the firm assurance that soccer fans will be presented with best on the afternoon to make the day a memorable one.

The two sides will also capitalise on the opportunity to sharpen their rough edges ahead of the resumption of the Glo Premier on March 11.

Kotoko on the other hand is expected to use the match as preparatory ground for their first leg game of the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Champions League game against Khemisset of Morocco at the Baba Yara Stadium, in March.

The statement urged all soccer fans to fill the stands on March 6 to cheer their respective teams to victory as well as support a worthy cause
