“Killing boxing softly”

11.02.2009 LISTEN
By Kofi Owusu Aduonum - Ghanaian Chronicle

The chairman of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Mr. Moses Foh-Amoaning is not the least happy following what he terms as calculated attempts by some members of the boxing fraternity to create the impression that there is no peace in the sport.

According to him, the “coup makers” are doing the sport more harm than good, saying that “When they continue to attack the game of boxing as though there was perpetual confusion, then they will be destroying the image of the sport.”

He revealed that the days when people single handedly sponsored boxing by way of promotions are over, and that currently, the only way through which the sport thrives is by way of sponsorship.

“It is becoming increasingly difficult securing sponsorship in recent times because some people have created the impression that GBA is in a perpetual in-fighting,” said the boxing boss.

According to Mr. Foh-Amoaning, the long term effect of the action of the “coup makers” is that it is boxing that becomes the loser at the end of the day.

He therefore, appealed to all to rally behind the GBA in their quest to make greater strides this year, and the years ahead.
