Barely three days after The Chronicle published a list of names of persons popping up for contention for the position of Inspector General of Police (IGP), one of the named officers, DCOP Patrick Timbilla, Police Director in charge of Operations, has denied ever stating that the then opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) was doomed to be in opposition forever.

Speaking in reaction to The Chronicle story on phone, he said the story was a calculated attempt by his detractors to tarnish his hard won reputation as a Police officer of distinguished service.

He said as a Police officer who was in charge of Operations, it was his obligation to exhibit neutrality at all times, no matter which government was in power.

DCOP Timbilla said he handled 860 Police officers and it was incumbent on him to show professionalism in his work, in order to enhance the democracy of the nation.

“When the story was published, people called my cell phone and asked, Patrick, are you the one who said this?”, he told the paper.

He said his only ambition was to serve the nation as a Police officer, and if he was promoted to IGP he will serve Ghanaians as expected of him.
