League Thrills Resume Sunday

After the stormy political climate which overshadowed every other activity, including football during the election run-off that rolled off yesterday, the premier league is set to bounce back on Sunday with some very attractive pairings.

Ashgold and Kpando Heart of Lions will present two different tales on Sunday. As the Miners have struggled after their first win against RTU, Lions have recovered from their 0-1 defeat to Arsenal and have won their last three matches.

German expatriate coach, Ernst Middendorp, is yet to devise a winning plan for Ashgold since the Herbert Mensah administration took over.

Not even the recruitment of World Cup player, Habib Mohammed, and former Kotoko duo of Nana Arhin Dua and Fuseini Adams has helped their cause.

The Miners, once a third force in Ghana football and runners of the 1997 Champions League, have completely lost their steam and their grip on the local league.

Nothing seems to be working for them as epitomised in their 0-1 loss at home to Tema Youth before the break.

Lions, on the other hand, have peaked so well after four matches and are well positioned to add to the woes of Ashgold.

The presence of Daniel Yeboah who joined the club from Liberty Professionals has added some colour to the Kpando team and the team is in good stead to win Sunday's game.

But aside Yeboah, Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, Stephen Owusu and Abraham Annang among a host of other well-grounded players, could spoil the first Sunday in the new year for the Miners.

League leaders, Asante Kotoko, are expected to stretch their lead atop the table as they clash with Sporting Mirren at the El-Wak Stadium, while new sensation Bechem Chelsea could run over RTU at Sunyani.

At Wa, All Stars will welcome Accra Hearts of Oak, Hasaacas lock horns with Wise at the Sekondi Stadium, King Faisal play host to Arsenal at the Baba Yara Stadium while All Blacks welcome Kessben to the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast.

The Liberty Professionals versus Tema Youth match has been rescheduled for Monday evening at the Ohene Djan Stadium to enable it to be telecast live on GBS.
