The National Sports Commission (NSC) on Saturday said it plans to revive the interdisciplinary games among the military and paramilitary agencies in the country.

Patrick Ekeji, Acting Director-General of NSC, stated this in Abuja at a meeting with military and paramilitary sports administrators, according to the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday.

He said the commission would inaugurate a think-tank committee that would formulate plans for actualizing the objectives of the games tagged the security games.

Ekeji noted with regret that the security games had lost their focus, due to a lack of interest by sports administrators to sustain it.

He urged the military and paramilitary agencies to be part of the think-tank committee that would fashion out modalities for the way forward for the games.

The acting director general said that although government would not directly fund the games, it would provide a platform for identifying athletes who would represent Nigeria in international events.

Earlier, Navy Capt. Suraj Bello, Naval Director of Sports, stressed the need for a legislation to harmonize sports among the agencies, saying that funding and lack of interest were the bane of the security games.

He said the military needed sports to keep its personnel physically fit for their assignment.
