DISABLED SPORT TEAMS CALLS FOR PEACE THROUGH FUN GAMES

The Sports wings of the various Disability groups(Blind, Deaf and disabled) under the Ghana Federation of the Disabled will compete among themselves in a series of fun games, dubbed “Accept The Winner”, which aims to project and call for a Peaceful Run-Off Elections at the Nicholson Park, Burma Camp, Accra, on Saturday, December 27, 2008 from 9:00am

The event, which is being sponsored and organized by INFOCUS PR, a Public Relations, Event Management and Media Representation firm, also aims to call on the electorate and especially the supporters of the two main political parties, NPP and NDC to help in maintaining calm, peace, order and most importantly, to accept whichever party emerges as a winner, when the Electoral Commission announces it.

It is also calling on the Electoral Commission to exercise a high degree of fairness in the counting of ballot papers and duly announce a winner after the run-off to avoid violence and conflict.

In an interview with Mr. Elvis Kosi-Alipui, the Chairman of the Planning Committee for the “Accept the Winner” Fun games initiative, he said, “the initiative serves as an appropriate medium for US, Persons with Disabilities, to express ourselves and call for absolute peace in all corners of the Country, come Sunday, December 28, 2008.

On her part, Ms. Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, the Director of Client Service for Infocus PR, stated that, “we see our sponsorship and association with the “Accept the Winner” Fun games initiative as a worthy Corporate Socially Responsibility and are throwing our weight fully behind it. At this time of intense political tension, Persons with Disabilities seem the most venerable. You will agree with me that, the Able like You and I, will have an advantage in 'trying' to find a hiding place, whiles Persons with Disabilities will in a way, be disadvantaged, should Ghana turn into Kenya. We know, pray and believe that, that will never happen”, she stressed.

“Mr. Paul Fummey, a Blind sportsman added that, Persons with Disabilities are normally neglected and “if we want to use our sporting talent at this time as our voice to call for PEACE, then, we deem it as a course, worthy to be supported by the media and the general public”. He further used the opportunity to call on the general public as a whole to come to the Nicholson Park and give them their moral support, cheer and support them, as they project and exhibit Peace, through their God-given talent in the areas of Three-Legged Race, Cycling Race, Tug of Peace, Lime and Spoon, Goal Ball, Basketball and Table Tennis among others”.

The “Accept the Winner” fun games initiative is also being supported by Somovision, Vita Milk, Cadbury Ghana, Milani Fruit Juice, Antrak Air, MTN, Tasty Jerk, T & T Brothers, Happy Fm and Choice Fm.
