Three corporate bodies, RICS Consult, MARGINS Group and Babarossa Foundation have supported the “Million Balls” project.
The project, an initiative of ORPED, an NGO that promote education and sports among children, seeks to solicit a million footballs as a platform to advocate child and community development.
Eric Amponsah Boateng, the Country Team Leader told GNA Sports on Tuesday that the support of the three institutions will serve a booster to their target of million footballs to be distributed among communities and school kids.
He explained that RICS Consult led by Board Chairman, Magnus Rex Danquah donated 25 mitre footballs as part of their contribution to the project.
Boateng said that MARGINS donated 150 soccer balls for onward distribution whilst the Babarossa Foundation also donated various quantities with a promise to donate more in future.
In acknowledging the donations, he commended the donors and urged other corporate bodies and individuals to support the unique project, which intends to use the soccer fiestas of the 2010 CAN and FIFA World Cup to offer a platform to address many of the issues of the Millennium Development Goals.
The Country Team Leader said the project is nearing its pilot stage in the country and that puts Ghana at the forefront of providing Africa with innovative solutions to recalcitrant challenges. He said in the Million Balls Africa project, Ghana has designed and evolved a brilliant project which will add to the new transformational agenda for the new Africa full of peace, hope, fellow feeling, and full of a successful people willing and able to unleash their intellectual capabilities.
