> Debutant Chelsea Shock Liberty

Bechem Chelsea announced their presence in the Ghanaian league with a morale-boosting 3-2 win to end off-season champions Liberty Professionals' winning streak at the Ohene Djan Stadium yesterday.

Rasta-haired Ibrahim Issaka fetched the winner for the new entrants on 62 minutes after both had tied 2-2.

He delivered a grounder after tearing away from his markers, benefiting from a one-two combination with colleague Richard Atika.

Playing a free-flowing game watched by a handful of supporters including former Ghanaian international, Tony Yeboah, Liberty struck first on 10 minutes through Yaw Antwi. Ironically that was to bring out the best in Chelsea who took a 2-1 lead before half time. Atika scored from an individual brilliance when he side stepped the Liberty defenders, dummied the goalkeeper and lifted the ball into the roof of the net on the 21st minute.

Three minutes to end the half, Jackson Owusu scored from a spot kick to give the Bechem team the edge, only for Salifu Latif to equalise for Liberty on 58 minutes after the Bechem midfield had disintegrated briefly.

Featuring some ex-Liberty players, including goalkeeper Nana Bonsu, and also coached by former head coach of Liberty, Nii Noi Thompson, Chelsea deflated the ego of the Dansoman team when Issaka slotted in the winner on the 62nd minute.
