By Daily Graphic

Former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak coach, Ernst Middendorp, is set for a return into the Ghanaian league as technical director of Ashantigold.

The German is expected in town between late November and early December for a schedule broader than the direct coaching duties he experienced at both Kotoko and Hearts.

The appointment of Middendorp is one of the new programmes being implemented by Fortia Limited, a sports consortium which recently bought Ashantigold from Anglogold Ashanti and which has Herbert Mensah as its chief executive.

Herbert Mensah told the Daily Graphic in an interview that the new Ashantigold concept would involve the academy and other development programmes to strengthen the club's pool of talents at the youth level.

Middendorp, he said, would be in charge of the direction of the main side, Ashantigold, and its academy, the Sam Otchere Academy, as well as other projects directly linked to football and being considered by the Ashantigold new management.

The management will, however, appoint a head coach for Ashantigold in the coming week, while other expatriateswere being considered for the academy.

It will be a reunion of a long-standing relationship between the German and Herbert Mensah since their working days at Kotoko in 2001 and later ar Hearts.
