World telecommunications giants MTN have honoured Ghana captain Stephen Appiah, describing him as an icon, a legend and a hero.
In a ceremony held in Ghana on Saturday night, MTN, who are official sponsors of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, honoured Appiah for his commitment, CAN-DO attitude and for his contribution to Ghanaian society as a whole.
MTN themselves believe in the value of Can Do, having a good relationship with all their customers and clients, always showing integrity, leadership and innovation in their field of business.
In bestowing this honour on Stephen, they compared his qualities to theirs and are extremely happy that he is contributing postively to Ghana just as MTN is as well.
Stephen Appiah who is due in Ghana on Sunday for the Black Stars World Cup game against Lesotho next week was not able to attend the ceremony but recorded a message to be played.
He couldnt believe the honour and was very surprised when MTN initially called him to tell him about it.
In a video recorded message Appiah said: ''What can I say? Being celebrated as an Icon, a legend and hero? Beyond my wildest dreams, I find this truly unbelievable but I am honoured.
"First of all, I will like to thank Almighty God for his blessings in my life and secondly, MTN for honouring me in such a way. To be regarded as an Icon and a Legend is a great honour
"For me, my determination to succeed and positive attitude and continually Stepping App has been an important part of this achievement.
"In a way I am just like MTN because they believe in the value of Can Do, having a good relationship with all their customers and clients, always showing integrity, leadership and innovation in their field of business.
"As a player and as a person, I always strive to move up to the next level and I do that through having good relationships with everyone I meet and being honest.
"I am glad I am blessed to have a positive impact on a lot of people especially the youth. I will continue to encourage our youth and the people of Ghana to give 100% in everything they do so they can achieve their aims.
"Hopefully, they will in turn inspire others. Giving my all is what I do best and with your support we will go places."
