Brong Ahafo Region on Tuesday beat Central Region 2-1 in the soccer event at the on-going 28th National Inter-Regional Basic Schools Sports Festival at Cape Coast.
In a match of equals, it was Central Region's midfielder Eric Baidoo who put his side ahead in the 36th minute when he disposed of two defenders to score the opener.
The cheers that greeted the goal had hardly died when outside right, Daniel Amofa equalized for Brong Ahafo Region in the 38th minute with a beautiful header in goal-mouth scramble.
Amidst jubilation from both sides, the game from then became balanced but when all things was pointing to a drawn game, a hard pressed defender of the Central Regional team fouled enterprising Amofa in the penalty box in the 88th minute.
Brong-Ahafo's centre half, Evans Poku scored from the resultant penalty kick to raise the goal tally to 2-1 to ensure his team carried the day.
In another match, Eastern Region reaped a goal harvest when they spanked their Upper West Region counterparts with an incredible score of 10-0 while Greater Accra Region also whipped Western Region 4-2 on penalties after the two sides had drawn 2-2 at full time.
Mr Samuel Bannerman-Mensah, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) was among the personalities who witnessed the matches.
