The Director of the Ashanti New Town Ladies Football Club in Kumasi, Mr Kwame Opoku Boateng, has expressed concern about the National Awards to be conferred on individuals by the President scheduled for July 3 in Accra.
Mr Boateng said it is regretable that none of the founding members of women sports who devoted their time, energies and monies towards the development of women sports was included in the list.
Speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports in Kumasi at the weekend, he said the development of women sports took its roots from the Ashanti New Town Ladies Football Club founded in Kumasi in 1985 by some individual personalities.
Mr Boateng particularly mentioned the immense contributions made by such personalities including Madam Abena Kufour, Madam Habiba Atta, Samuel, Madam Abena Ateaa, Nana Ama Congress, Mr Adolf Mensah and Mr Kwame Opoku Boateng towards women sports development in the country.
He has therefore appealed to President John Agyekum Kufuor to consider including in the future, list of such personalities to motivate them to continue and devote their time, resources and energies towards women sports development.
This, the Director noted would also serve as motivation to others to contribute meaningfully towards sports development in the country.
