Beginning June 11 to 16, the second annual inter-regional boxing championship will rock the Sunyani Coronation Park.
The boxing showpiece, arranged by the National Sports Council (NSC), forms part of NSC's bid to unearth talents from the grass roots.
The Chief Executive Officer of the NSC, Mr Prince Oduro-Mensah revealed in Accra yesterday that the only way to restore the fortunes of boxing is putting together such tournaments, hence the inter-regional tourney. Mr Orduro-Mensah pointed out that the country is blessed with sporting talents especially in the hinterlands, and suggested that it will be prudent to go to such areas to identify hidden potentials as was done in the olden days which produced great boxers. The talent-hunting program will feature boxers at the various weight categories from the ten regions.
Highlights of the event will be an exhibition bout by female and juvenile boxers from the Greater Accra Region.
A token rate of ¢1.00 will be charged.
The first edition was held at Winneba in the Central region.
