Mills Promises Better Deal
THE PRESIDENTIAL candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor John Evans Atta Mills has stated at a mammoth rally at Nsuaem in the Western Region that the NDC will bring smiles on the faces of Ghanaians if given the mandate to rule the country from January 2009.
He said since the Ghanaian worker was not earning a living wage, the teeming youth were unemployed and cost of living continues to escalate, the discerning electorate would definitely kick-out the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in the upcoming general elections.
“It is good that Ghanaians have witnessed the administration of both NDC and NPP and will be the better judges; and now they can differentiate between the weight of water and alcohol to know which is heavier,” he pointed out.
He bemoaned the state of roads, school buildings and health facilities in many parts of the region and wondered how a region which provides the bulk of the nation's natural resources could be neglected by a ruling government.
He promised that under an NDC government the region would see massive development, and thus called on the people to vote for him and parliamentary candidates of the NDC in the general elections.
Prof Mills said the NPP had made it clear to the electorate that it believed in property-owned democracy; “no wonder its politicians were amassing wealth at the expense of the ordinary Ghanaian” adding, “The NPP has proved that money is more important than human beings, but the NDC thinks it is the opposite.”
He advised NDC faithful to be well-behaved during the electioneering campaigns as well as on the election day, and advised the party's polling agents to also be extra vigilant because God had ordained the NDC to redeem Ghanaians from the current economic hardship through the ballot box.
He as well told the people not to sell their conscience when NPP members approach them to buy their votes, because retaining the NPP in power meant plunging the entire country into unimaginable economic hardship.
Madam Ama Benyiwa Doe, National Women's Organizer of the party, stated that the Kufuor-led NPP had made majority of Ghanaians poorer than before, while his ministers and party gurus continued to feed fat on the nation's resources.
The NPP, she said, deceived the electorate during the 2000 general elections when they asked Ghanaians to consider their plight and vote accordingly, indicating that the NPP government had failed the people in its two terms.
Earlier when Prof Mills paid a courtesy call on Nana Duku Adda, Chief of Nsuaem, the chief intimated that the people needed a teacher training college since most parents in the area were poor and could afford only that level of education for their children.
He commended Prof. Mills for being a truthful and distinguished politician, adding, “Many politicians in this country have made lies their trade mark, but you are an exception, so my people and I have collectively endorsed your candidature and will rally solidly behind you.”
