It’ll Be Grandfather-Grandson Fight -

In a fitting prelude to yesterday's press conference in Sydney, Australia, boxing legend Azumah Nelson revived fond memories of his old humorous self as he christened his upcoming fight against Jeff Fenech a “grandfather and grandson” business.

In a calm voice and demeanour, the “Terrible Terror” said the old order remained in full force and predicted another knockout victory over the Australian legend.

“The best thing is to take my referee and my judges into the ring like I did before,” he said to applause from the press and particularly his fans that included Asafoatse Nii Akapeh II, Dsaase Asafoatse of the Osu Mankralo Stool.

Addressing the press at his Achimota home last Friday moments before his departure for Australia where he and Fenech are expected to address the joint press conference towards their June 24 fight in Melbourne, Azumah said he was convinced of his fitness for the fight.

“It is too early to say exactly how long he will last, but he will not last the distance,” he added.

Nii Akapeh had visited the boxer to assure him of “the support and prayers of the people” of Osu where, like Teshie and Otublohum, Azumah traces his rooots.

“The lion does not grow old with its claws and we know you still possess the quality that made you the king of all that you surveyed during your active days. We wish you the best,” Nii Akapeh II told Azumah.

The 10-round bout in Australia will be the third fight between the two former three-time world champions.

Azumah stopped Fenech in eight rounds in Melbourne in their second fight after they drew the first in America.

Both boxers have been in retirement for almost a decade during which period they were each inducted into boxing Hall of Fame at different times.
