Ishmael Addo Bounces Back

Former goal-king, Ishmael Addo is relishing a return to active international football soon.

Addo, who has been missing in action for sometime now, is considering returning to his former base in Israel where he was a hero for Maccabi Netanya.

Speaking on TV3's Talk Sports yesterday, the former predator said he has got offers from clubs in Europe especially Israel.

Though he had a wish to return to his former club Accra Hearts of oak so as to re-launch his career, Ishmael said he did not get the best of offers from the Phobians. He added though that he was hopeful he will one day play for Hearts before hanging his boots.

The former prolific striker explained that playing active football in top flight European leagues could guarantee his return to the Black Stars where he was one of the lead strikers in 2002 during the African Cup of Nations competition held in Mali.

Ishmael, then the most dangerous striker on the African continent, had a quiet tournament despite the fact that Ghana reached the quarter finals with young and inexperienced players such as John Mensah, Michael Essien, Matthew Amoah and Kofi Amponsah.

Having already played for top flight European clubs such as Bastia of France where he began his foreign club football, Ishmael hopes to be second-time lucky when he embarks on another journey to Europe.

When he returned to Ghana from Cyprus during the middle of last year, Ishmael played for his former local club side Hearts during the Top Four competition, until he got injured.

He led Hearts to the 2000 African Champions League for the first time in the club's history before leaving for SC Bastia in 2002.

Before then he had won the goal king award on three consecutive occasions.
