NIGERIA'S U-23 male football national team handler, Samson Siasia is in a pole position for the Super Eagles job following aptitude tests conducted by the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) for applicants for the post in Abuja on Tuesday.

German trainer, Berti Vogts, led the Eagles to a disappointing quarter final ouster at the 26th Africa Nations Cup, Ghana 2008, which triggers calls for indigenous replacement for the German.

A host of ex-internationals like Stephen Keshi, Sunday Oliseh, Aloy Agu, Zion Ogunfeyinmi, Siasia, Dan Amokachi, Okey Emordi attended the interview for the vacant job but Tribunesports gathered that Siasia impressed the interviewers the most.

Sources at the NFA and Sports Ministry explained to Tribunesports that apart from enviable record of Siasia by winning gold and silver with the Flying Eagles at the 2005 African and World Youth Championships respectively, the former Flash Flamingoes striker is also seen as the coach who should graduate with the Nigeria team to the full international level.

The NFA is expected to name the interim coach of the Eagles next week.
