Ghanaian striker Isaac Boakye has joined German second division side Mainz 05 until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old moves on loan from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in a deal worth 100,000 Euros.

The deal will be made permanent in June if Boakye impresses with the Rhineland side.

The striker struggled to hold down a regular place at Wolfsburg after managing only two appearances for the club this season.

Despite Boakye's poor form this term, Mainz 05 coach Jurgen Klopp is confident that the Ghanaian can help them to return to the Bundesliga.

The former AshantiGold has been ruled out of the Ghana national team after falling out with Ghana coach Claude Le Roy.

But the striker's agent Wolfgang Voge says he will win back his place in the national team if he gets regular football action with Mainz 05.

"Boakye is interested in playing for his country but because his first-team opportunities are limited it is difficult for him," Voge told Ghanasoccernet.

"I am confident that if he gets regular football action he will be back in the national team."
