The Accra Psychiatric Hospital is facing acute shortage of nurses and this is impacting negatively on the health needs of patients. The Acting Medical Director of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Akwasi Osei, revealed this at the End-Of-Year patients and staff party. He said the situation will get even worse when almost of the hospital's 115 nurses who would retire in the next five years are not replaced.

In a remark, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Elias Sory, said only 6% of the sector's budget is allocated to mental health which he described as woefully inadequate.
