The first inter-schools rugby came to an end on Friday December 7, 2007, with the University of Ghana winning the Senior High School (SHS) category.

They beat Ngleshi Amanfrom SHS by 12-0 in the final which was played at the University of Ghana Rugby Park. And in the third-place play-off, West Africa SHS thrashed Labone 27-10.

In the junior division, Kotobabi 13 Junior High School (JHS) emerged winners by trouncing Abeka Motorway JHS 20-0 in the final, while Amoralf JHS and Unity JHS took the third and fourth positions respectively after the former had beaten the latter 17-5.

In an interview with DAILY GUIDE SPORTS, the Executive and Technical Director of the Ghana Rugby Association (GRA), John Kennedy Koranteng disclosed, “Finals of the Inter-Schools Rugby was played on December 7 to coincide with this year's Farmers' Day celebrations.

“We are indeed satisfied with the turnout, and the fact that this maiden event has been organized successfully.”

According the technical director, “the next inter-schools rugby would be bigger than this one”.

It would be recalled that three weeks ago, the Ghana Rugby Association (GRA) in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) launched the rugby competition among Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) and Senior High Schools (SHS) in the Greater Accra Region.

Gifty Annan Myers, president of GRA explained at the launch that the reason her outfit had taken the sport to schools was to popularise it and help in unearthing talents, adding that the future of the sport lay with the youth.

The event was sponsored by SG-SSB, Yes Natural Mineral Water, Price Waterhouse Coopers and EST Travels.
