Ghana's chances of playing for a medal in the ongoing Africa Clubs Hockey Chmapionships in Egypyt dimmed following Golden Sticks' 2-0 defeat to the defending champions, Sharkia of Egypt, yesterday at the Cairo International Stadium.

Waled Mamoud and Hassan Ahmed did the damage to the Ghanaian team with scintillating goals in the 11th and 29th minutes.

Golden Sticks now have to win their last two matches against Wydad and Marekh today and tomorrow respectively to better their chances of playing for a medal on Friday.

The Ghanaians had low morale from kick-off and had to fight hard in a bid to recover from two goals down as has been the trend so far.

Golden Sticks drew 2-2 and 4-4 against Delta Force of Nigeria and Eastern of Egypt respectively in their first two matches.

Earlier in the day Wydad were baptised 10-0 by Delta Force of Nigeria. Sharkia lead the table with nine points, while Delta Force and Eastern follow with four points and three points respectively, while Golden Sticks trail them with two points.

The two top teams after the round-robin will play in the final, while teams which finish third and fourth play for bronze.
