The Inter Schools Rugby Championship got underway last weekend at the University of Ghana Rugby Park, with Kotobabi 13 Junior High School (JHS) beating S.D.A. JHS by 5 points to nil.

Labone Senior High School (SHS) scored 7 points against KATECO's 5 points, while Christian Methodist failed to show up, earning the University of Ghana team a walk-over.

According to J.K. Koranteng, Technical Director for Ghana Rugby, Kotobabi 13 JHS will face Unity JHS, while Abeka Motorway JHS slug it out with Amoralf JHS in the semifinals of the juniors' category on Saturday December 1, 2007.

On the same day, University of Ghana will square it off with West Africa Secondary School (WASS), as Labone SHS battle it out with Amamfrom SHS in the senior high school category. The final will be played on December 8, 2007 at the same venue.

It would be recalled that two weeks ago, the Ghana Rugby Association (GRA) in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) launched a rugby competition among Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) and Senior High Schools (SHS) in the Greater Accra Region.

Gifty Annan Myers, president of GRA explained at the launch that the reason her outfit had taken the sport to schools was to popularise it and help in unearthing talents, adding that the future of the sport lay with the youth.

The championship is being sponsored by SG-SSB, Yes Natural Mineral Water, Price Waterhouse Coopers and EST Travels.
