Sierra Leone Progresses In World Cup

By Daily Guide

Sierra Leone sealed their place in the 2010 World Cup draw after drawing 0-0 with Guinea Bissau in Bissau.

The Leone Stars claimed victory with a 1-0 aggregate score.

The result means Sierra Leone would join Djibouti, Madagascar and 45 other African nations in the hat for the qualifying draw for Africa's first-ever World Cup which takes place in Durban on November 25, 2007.

Djibouti qualified for the main draw by beating Somalia 1-0 in their preliminary qualifier on Friday.

Djibouti is ranked 200th in the world, seven places below their opponents.

The game was a one-off, because the security situation in Mogadishu prevented them from playing the first-leg there.

Defeat for Somalia's Ocean Stars means they would be without competitive football for three years.

Madagascar confirmed their place in the qualifying draw for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, with a 4-0 victory over Comoros Island.

The Scorpions won the tie 10-2 on aggregate.
World Cup qualifying doubles as the selection campaign for the Nations Cup in 2010, which takes place in Angola.

The countries would be split into 12 groups of four, with winners and the best eight runners-up advancing to a third round of qualifying. BBC
