PSV Eindhoven's Ghanaian defender, Eric Addo, has apologised to all Ghanaians for the unfortunate incident during an UEFA Champions League match between his club and Turkish side Fernabahce which led to a four-match ban on him.

Addo, who reportedly spat on Fernabahce player, Semih Senturk, during the match, said it was the work of the devil that he could not control himself even though he was extremely provoked by his opponent who persistently taunted him with racist insults and hitting him with the elbow.

Addo, who rendered the apology through his father, Addoquaye Addo, who returned to Accra last Wednesday from his son's base, asked Ghanaians to forgive him, especially his Black Stars playmates, the coach, Claude Le Roy, the Ghana Football Association, well wishers and close friends.

He hoped not to repeat such behaviour, which is very much unlike him as acknowledged by his own club Eindhoven: “Eric is generally an example of correctness and it's very surprising that he lost his cool.”
