CAF suspend and fine Samuel Eto’o, FECAFOOT to challenge decision
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a four-match ban and a $20,000 fine on Samuel Eto’o, President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), following a disciplinary ruling by the continental body’s Jury.
The sanction relates to Eto’o’s conduct during Cameroon’s match against Morocco, prompting CAF to open a formal disciplinary procedure against the former African Footballer of the Year.
In response, FECAFOOT issued a statement expressing serious reservations about both the process and the rationale behind the decision. The Cameroonian federation argued that the ruling “lacks any explicit motivation,” raising concerns over transparency and the adherence to fair hearing principles.
FECAFOOT also criticized the expedited nature of the procedure, asserting that it does not meet the standards of a fair and equitable disciplinary process. Despite the setback, the federation confirmed that Eto’o will pursue all available legal remedies to challenge the ruling.
The statement reiterated FECAFOOT’s support for its president and its commitment to upholding credible and transparent disciplinary justice.

"The Cameroonian Football Federation has taken note of Decision No. DC23312 issued on 14 January 2026 by the Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation of African Football, in the context of the disciplinary proceedings initiated against its president in relation to the alleged misconduct that occurred during the Morocco-Cameroon match.
"The federation points out that this decision, which resulted in the player being suspended for four matches and fined $20,000, lacks any clear justification.
"The European Federation of Podiatrists (FECAFOOT) also points out that the expedited procedure that led to this decision raises serious concerns regarding the basic requirements of a fair trial.
"The Union acknowledges the decision of its President to exercise the legal remedies stipulated in the applicable texts, within the specified time limits and forms.
"FECAFOOT reaffirms its continued support for its president and its commitment to respecting the principles that govern credible disciplinary justice."
