Golfers nationwide celebrate Mona Captan at Golden Jubilee Swing in Tema

Golfers from across Ghana converged on the Center of the World Golf Club in Tema for the Golden Jubilee Swing, a special tournament staged in honour of Mona Captan, widely regarded as the country’s most accomplished female golfer.

The one-day celebration paid tribute to her decades of excellence and her influential role in nurturing the sport nationwide.

The event was hosted by the Center of the World Golf Club with support from a broad coalition of partners, including Tema Women’s Hospital, Landers Group, Tang Palace Hotel, Nuvel Premium Tissues, Vaseline (Unilever), Senchi Hotel, Bell Aqua, Zed Media and The Finder.

Players spanning several generations turned out, creating a vibrant atmosphere that blended youthful energy with the experience of seasoned golfers. Well-known figures such as Florence Entwi-Barimah, Elizabeth Koomson, Beatrice Vetch Bimpong, Maggie Baah Owusu, Mike Aggrey, Rodney Oddoye, Kwaku Okyere, Prince Kofi Amoabeng and Joshua Prempeh were among those who took part, joined by emerging golfers eager to honour a pioneer who has inspired many of their careers.

After an afternoon of keen competition, participants gathered at Hole 18 for the official announcement of results.

Fresh off her triumph at the Head of State Invitational, Floria Hurtubise continued her impressive run of form, finishing ahead of Catherine Fabbi and Letitia Amponsah-Mensah.

During the closing ceremony, speakers including Prince Kofi Amoabeng, GGA representative Leonard Kwaku Okeyer, club officials and veteran lady golfers delivered moving tributes to Captan. They praised her mentorship, resilience and unwavering commitment to growing the sport, recounting personal moments that underscored her influence on generations of golfers.

The Golden Jubilee Swing served not only as a celebration of Captan’s distinguished career but also as a reaffirmation of her enduring legacy as a trailblazer for women in Ghanaian sport.
