President John Mahama to perform official tee-off ceremony at 4th FNB Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament
The fourth edition of the FNB Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday, November 28, 2025, at the Achimota Golf Club, the historic home of the sport in Ghana. This year’s competition will be launched with a ceremonial tee-off by President John Dramani Mahama.
The annual event, held under the patronage of the sitting President, has grown into one of the country’s most prestigious amateur tournaments. Beyond the fairways, it has evolved into a forum for high-level engagement, offering space for dialogue, collaboration and business networking among leaders from varied sectors.
The 2025 tournament, themed “Giving Back to the Community Through Golf,” will assemble 120 golfers from across Ghana and the sub-region. Organizers say the theme reflects an ongoing commitment to channeling the values of the sport into social impact and community development.
The tournament is being staged by Northwestern Solutions in partnership with the Ghana Golf Association, with First National Bank (FNB) as headline sponsor. Supporting partners include the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Aphro, La Villa Aphro, Mundus, SAP GP, Danny List Foundation, Caveman Watches, The Luckiest and Nguvu Mining Limited.
Conceived to honour the Head of State and foster engagement between government and the private sector, the event continues to serve as a platform for policy conversation and strategic partnerships.
A number of high-profile guests are expected at the opening ceremony at Achimota and at the closing event later at the University of Ghana Dome. Among them are the Minister for Sports and Recreation, renowned statesman Sir Sam Jonah, Achimota Golf Club President Frank Adu, Ghana Golf Association President Kweku Okyere, club executives from across the country, FNB CEO Warren Adams and representatives of sponsoring companies.
Competition will be spread across several categories—including Men’s Group A, Men’s Group B and the Ladies’ Group—designed to keep the field competitive and inclusive. A handicap scoring system will be used, with both gross and net scores determining the overall winners. Organizers have hinted at an impressive prize package for the top performers.
One of the most unforgettable moments in the tournament’s history came in 2018, when the Kumasi edition earned what many described as a “royal touch.” The presence of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Okyenhene Amoatia Ofori Panin II, both passionate golfers, added a symbolic blend of tradition and modern leadership, elevating the event’s national significance.
In basketball news, the President of FIBA Africa Zone 3, Col. Sam Ahmedu (Rtd.), has applauded the Ghana Basketball Association (GBBA) for the successful conduct of its elective congress in Sunyani on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
Ahmedu praised the GBBA—one of eight federations under his zone—for what he described as exemplary organisation and a harmonious election process that ushered in new leadership for a four-year term.
Veteran administrator Alex Kukula, formerly in charge of Technical and Development, was elected unopposed as GBBA President. Ayiteh Bulley, Chairman of the FIBA Africa Zone 3 Finance, Marketing and Sponsorship Council and head of the Greater Accra League, secured the position of Vice President for Finance and Administration.
Meme Falconer was elected Vice President for Technical, while Aurora Commodore emerged as Treasurer.
In a related development, Iddrissu Ayambire, Chairman of the FIBA Africa Zone 3 Technical and Competitions Council and a former GBBA Vice President, has been appointed Honorary President of the Association. Col. Ahmedu himself was also named an Honorary Member of the GBBA in recognition of his contributions to basketball development in Ghana.
