Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito says past disappointments in the President’s Cup will fuel his side’s determination ahead of this year’s clash with arch-rivals Hearts of Oak.
The Porcupine Warriors are set to face the Phobians on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium in the 2025 edition of the annual fixture.
Kotoko have suffered defeats in recent editions of the Cup, falling to both Hearts and Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas. However, Zito believes those setbacks will inspire his players to reclaim the trophy.
“It’s always a tough game when you are playing Hearts of Oak, and the expectation is very high with both supporters, so we are preparing towards it," he told the club's media.
"We will use it [losses in the previous President’s Cup] to motivate ourselves to go for the cup," he added.
Zito has named a 20-man squad for the much-anticipated encounter, featuring all seven of the club’s new signings.
