2024 WAFCON: Black Queens arrive in Morocco to begin preparation for tournament

Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, have arrived safely in Ben Slimane, Morocco, to begin preparations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The team touched down on Tuesday, June 17, from Accra and have since settled into their training base.

Head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren earlier named a 24-player provisional squad for the tournament, which is scheduled to take place in Morocco next month.

While not all players have arrived at camp yet, the full squad is expected to assemble in the coming days.

The Black Queens have been drawn into Group C, where they will face defending champions South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania.

Returning to the WAFCON for the first time since 2016, Ghana will be aiming for a strong start under Bjorkegren as they chase their maiden continental title.

The team has already played several friendlies under the Swedish coach as part of their build-up.

The 2024 WAFCON kicks off on July 5, with the final scheduled for July 26.
