Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku says they could not have ended the season without winning a trophy.
Having missed out on the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League title, the Porcupine Warriors lifted their 10th FA Cup on Sunday.
Kotoko defeated lower-tier side Golden Kick FC at the University of Ghana Stadium, with Opoku netting a brace.
“We can’t go trophyless for all the hard work we’ve put in, so I’m very happy,” Opoku told 3Sports after the match.
“We are Asante Kotoko, we can’t go trophyless. We were supposed to win the league, but unfortunately, we didn’t win it. So we were supposed to do something for my club, so I’m happy we won this FA Cup.”
Opoku praised the team’s performance, saying, “I’ll say we’ve done well this season.”
The FA Cup win ensured Kotoko finished the season with a trophy and booked a spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
