Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed his desire to keep Thomas Partey at the club beyond this summer.
The Ghanaian midfielder’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season. Partey joined Arsenal in 2020 from Atletico Madrid on a five-year deal.
Recently, the 31-year-old has been linked with moves to Barcelona, Juventus, and several Saudi Pro League teams ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
Ahead of Arsenal’s final game of the season, Arteta praised Partey’s performances this year, saying, “In regards to Thomas [Partey], consistency-wise, it’s been his best season.
"I think the way he’s played, performed, his availability has been exceptional, and he’s a really important player for us. Yeah (I want him to stay)," he added.
Partey has featured in 51 matches this campaign — the highest number of appearances he has made in a single season for Arsenal after struggling with injuries in previous years. He has also contributed four goals.
The midfielder will look to maintain his strong form as Arsenal face Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium on Sunday.
