Legon Cities have officially been relegated from the Ghana Premier League following a crushing 4-1 loss to Nations FC on Monday at the University of Ghana Stadium in their Matchday 31 fixture.

Nations FC were dominant throughout the encounter, with Kelvin Ampoful leading the charge by scoring a brace. He opened the scoring midway through the first half, capitalising on a defensive lapse to slot home from close range.

The home side found a brief lifeline just before halftime when Nations FC's Rabin Ousmane Sanon inadvertently put the ball into his own net, levelling the score.

However, the second half belonged entirely to the visitors. Emmanuel Annor restored their lead in the 64th minute with a composed finish following a slick team move.

Moments later, Sadiq Alhassan extended the advantage with a thunderous strike from the edge of the box, before Ampoful struck again late in the game to seal the emphatic win.

The result propels Nations FC back to the top of the league table as the season nears its conclusion, while confirming Legon Cities’ relegation to the Division One League for the 2025/26 season.

It's a bitter end to a difficult campaign for Legon Cities, who have struggled for consistency and failed to keep pace with their top-flight rivals.

Formerly known as WA All Stars, the club won the Ghana Premier League title in 2016 under the backing of ex-GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi.

The club was rebranded as Legon Cities FC in December 2019 after a change in ownership. Despite generating buzz with marquee signings like Asamoah Gyan, the club has been unable to turn promise into sustained success.

Now, they face the challenge of rebuilding in the Division One League next season.
