Ghana U-20 defender Aaron Essel says the Black Satellites are approaching their upcoming quarter-final clash against host nation Egypt as if it were the final of the tournament.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Sunday at the New Suez Stadium, Essel described the mood in the Ghana camp as focused and composed.
“For us, this is a final. The field will decide who wins, and we are determined to make sure it’s Ghana,” he said.
Essel highlighted the team's intense preparation and strong mindset going into the high-stakes match.
“Preparations have gone very well. Everyone is focused and ready to deliver," he added.
The 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations doubles as a qualifier for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, with a semi-final berth guaranteeing a ticket to the global stage. With that in mind, the Black Satellites know what’s at stake.
Essel emphasized the importance of following head coach Desmond Ofei’s tactical instructions to overcome a confident Egyptian side playing in front of their home fans.
“There’s no pressure on us,” he added. “We’ve prepared well and are approaching the game with a strong mentality.”
Ghana, four-time U-20 continental champions, are chasing a return to their former glory. Victory in Suez would take them a step closer to that ambition.
