British journalist and author Henry Winter has pointed to the absence of Thomas Partey as a key reason for Arsenal's loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League semifinal first leg.
The 31-year-old midfielder was unavailable for Tuesday night’s clash at the Emirates Stadium due to suspension, having picked up two yellow cards in the quarter-final tie against Real Madrid.
PSG took advantage early in the match, with French winger Ousmane Dembélé scoring the decisive goal in just the fourth minute, ultimately sealing a 1-0 victory for the visitors.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Winter criticised Partey for the booking that led to his suspension.
"Thomas partey foolishly cost Arsenal against PSG. The team missed him (Thomas Partey)," he said. "His yellow card was just unnecessary, and his absence cost the team against PSG.
"It's good he will be back on the return," he added.
Arsenal will look to overturn the deficit when they face PSG in the second leg at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday, May 7.
