Asante Kotoko legend, Samuel Opoku Nti, has backed the appointment of Karim Zito as the interim coach and as the technical director of the club.
The experienced Ghanaian trainer has replaced Prosper Narteh Ogum, who was sacked due to a poor run of results.
“I believe the timing was right. We had about six matches left before Zito arrived, now it’s five, and I think it was the correct decision,” Opoku told Akoma FM in an interview.
The former Kotoko CEO and player explained that, under Prosper Ogum, the team lacked cohesion and energy, making a managerial change necessary to revive the squad’s fortunes.
“The way Kotoko was playing match after match, something wasn’t clicking. It’s better to sacrifice one individual than risk the entire team falling apart,” he said.
“This happens even in Europe. I knew that if they changed the coach, Kotoko could win two or three matches in a row," he added.
After going four matches without a win, Asante Kotoko returned to winning ways when they recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win against Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Stadium in the Matchday 29 games.
- What next?
Asante Kotoko will hope to continue their mini-revival when they travel to play Hearts of Oak in the Matchday 30 games at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
