The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has challenged the Black Stars to aim for a higher position in the FIFA rankings, despite their recent victories over Chad and Madagascar.
Ghana secured a commanding 5-0 victory against Chad before defeating Madagascar 3-0 in their Matchday five and six encounters of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
These wins have propelled the Black Stars to the top of Group I with 15 points from six games.
However, Boamah believes the team’s current FIFA ranking of 77th does not reflect their true potential or the aspirations of the nation.
“The Black Stars are ranked 77th on the FIFA ranking, and that is not where we are supposed to be," he said on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday.
"If you know where we as a country want our national team to be, we want our national team to be at the levels that took us to the last eight in 2010. That is where we want our national team to be,” he added.
Ghana will resume their World Cup qualifying campaign in September, facing crucial encounters against Chad and Mali before rounding off the group stage with matches against the Central African Republic and Comoros.
