The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has referred Nsoatreman FC to its Prosecutor following the club’s decision to withdraw from the ongoing 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.
In a letter signed by the club’s president and received by the GFA on March 14, 2025, Nsoatreman cited "safety concerns regarding the security of our players" as the reason for its withdrawal, according to a statement from the FA.
The club attributed its decision to "recent events involving our matches against Asante Kotoko SC and FC Samartex 1996," stating that it could "no longer guarantee the safety of our players."
The tension escalated following their match against Asante Kotoko, during which a passionate Kotoko supporter, Francis Frimpong, was tragically stabbed to death. Additionally, after their fixture against Samartex FC, Nsoatreman's team bus was allegedly trailed by unknown individuals, leading to the arrest of one suspect by the police.
According to the police report, the suspect admitted to following the bus with the intent to retaliate for Frimpong’s murder.
These incidents heightened security concerns, ultimately prompting Nsoatreman FC to withdraw from the league. However, the GFA revealed that it had engaged the club multiple times in an attempt to resolve the situation, but discussions proved unsuccessful.
“The Football Association has had a number of engagements with the club on the subject matter without success,” the statement read.
With no resolution reached, the GFA has now “activated the appropriate provisions in the Competition Regulations” and referred the case to its Prosecutor for disciplinary action.
The FA cited Article 13(5) of the Premier League Regulations, which states:
"Where a club withdraws from the league after it has started, any match which that club is scheduled to play shall be considered forfeited, and accordingly, three (3) points and three (3) goals shall be awarded in favour of the opposing club."
As a result, the GFA confirmed that “on each scheduled matchday of Nsoatreman FC, three (3) points and three (3) goals shall be awarded to the opposing club.”
The disciplinary process will now proceed in accordance with the GFA Regulations.
