Ibrahim Saanie Daara, the Senior Media Officer for CAF, has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to reconsider its decision to pursue charges against Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, owner of Elmina Sharks.
The incident in question occurred during a match on Sunday at the Nduom Sports Stadium, which saw violent protests after the referee awarded a penalty to All Blacks.
After the match ended 1-0 in favour of the away team, Dr. Nduom expressed his dissatisfaction with the officiating through a social media post.
As a result, the GFA has charged Dr. Nduom with breaching Division One League Regulations and the GFA Disciplinary Code. The GFA further accuses him of inciting Elmina Sharks players, officials, and supporters against the match officials, which led to the violence—a misconduct that tarnishes the reputation of the game.
However, Saanie Daara, a former GFA spokesman, believes that influential business figures like Dr. Nduom are vital for the development and investment in Ghanaian football. He urged the GFA to show more leniency in this matter.
"We need people like Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom to invest in our game," he told Asempa FM's Ultimate Sports Show.
"Regardless of what has happened, it shouldn't always be about charging people. I have heard an account that he even went on the pitch to calm the fans so let's exercise patience in terms of decision making."
The Senior CAF Media Officer further noted that if Dr. Nduom became frustrated and decided to withdraw his support, it could have serious consequences for the Division One League.
"What if he gets angry and dissolves the team? He has his stadium and so the GFA should consider all these things.
"Any decision he makes will affect the Division One League and we should also remember that this is someone who has previously sponsored the Division One League.
"Maybe he is wrong but sometimes, we need diplomacy in resolving such issues," he added.
Dr. Nduom has been given until Wednesday, February 19, 2025, to respond to the charges.
