Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, owner of Elmina Sharks Football Club, has been charged by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for allegedly violating the Division One League Regulations and the GFA Disciplinary Code following a contentious league match against Swedru All Blacks.
The match, played at the Dr. Nduom Sports Complex, took a dramatic turn when Dr. Nduom allegedly entered the inner perimeter and the field of play without authorization to challenge a penalty decision. His intervention reportedly disrupted the game and heightened tensions on the field.
According to the GFA, Dr. Nduom also incited Elmina Sharks players, officials, and fans against the match officials. Additionally, he allegedly used social media to escalate tensions, encouraging supporters and club officials to take action against the referees.
Dr. Nduom has been given until Wednesday, February 19, to formally respond to the charges.
Meanwhile, Elmina Sharks’ Public Relations Officer, Kingsley Smith Arthur, has distanced the club from the attack on referee Morrison, stating that those responsible were not genuine supporters but imposters whose actions have tarnished the club’s reputation.
“A player, who pointed out one of the imposters from Swedru, claimed he had seen the man during our first-leg match in Swedru. This alleged imposter hit the player, leading to a confrontation between them. At that moment, after striking the player, the imposter went on to grab the referee.
“If you carefully watch the video, you’ll notice a man in white attire holding the referee, with ‘Elmina Sharks’ written on the back of his outfit. These are the individuals we are calling imposters, and we have video evidence that we will release,” he emphasised.
