Swedru All Blacks United FC, a Division One club, has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to investigate the chaotic events that occurred during their match against Elmina Sharks at the Nduom Sports Complex on Sunday, February 16, 2025.
In a statement issued on Monday, the club expressed disbelief over the treatment they received before, during, and after the game. They accused home fans and officials of obstructing their media coverage and later assaulting match officials.
Swedru All Blacks claimed that despite having proof of payment and GFA clearance, Elmina Sharks initially denied them permission to film the match. Even after the match commissioner approved their credentials, the home team allegedly blocked their media coverage, with the camera crew facing threats from fans.
Tensions flared in the 12th minute when the referee awarded a penalty to Swedru All Blacks. The club stated that Elmina Sharks' owner, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, and an official named Aboagye stormed the pitch and instructed their players to abandon the match. This led to a 27-minute delay as the confrontation with the referee escalated.
After the match, Swedru All Blacks accused Aboagye of leading an attack on the match officials, who were physically assaulted near the tunnel.
Although police officers were present, the club claimed law enforcement was initially overwhelmed by the home supporters. The police were eventually able to escort Swedru All Blacks' players, officials, and fans to safety.
The club has called on the GFA to release the match footage to allow for an independent review of the controversial penalty decision. They reiterated their commitment to fair play and responsible fan behavior, while stressing the need for stronger measures to combat hooliganism in Ghanaian football.
In conclusion, Swedru All Blacks urged the GFA to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident to ensure a safer environment for future matches.
